the typical news

13 men were found dead -strangled- hands and feet bound, signs of torture apparent. 56 civillians were found murdered, execution style, in and around Baghdad today.

God save the newspaper. It is dangerous work to insert, with a sterile syringe, the dead that fill the streets each morning between the Editorial and Restaurant Review sections. It's too far away to make the front page. Besides, they don't look like us. It is a place we know best for increasing our pay-at-the-pump rates. And on to sports...

The NCAA chooses the top seeds in an office building in Indiana. A man steps across a line of women waiting to buy food. They argue over who has a better record. He nervously reaches into his coat. A board member thinks it's Tennessee, another thinks he's full of shit. The sounds of a busy street and daily gossip ring through the brown air. He slams his fist on the table! "You are full of shit" He prays quickly, "Have mercy on me" He gets up, the blood vessels in his face blooming cherry-red. "godamnit!" He storms out of the room. He presses the two wire ends together. "Oh God." His body is instantly ripped apart, muscle from fat from bone from skin. "What the hell was his problem" mutter the remaining board members. Just a typical hothead; he thinks he's always right. The people closest to him are blown to pieces. The people closest to them are hit with the pieces. Just a typical suicide bomber; they always think they're right.

Just a typical day in the news. Rather uneventful, really- no dead GI's. It's good day for America. We're winning the war on terror. I am an American and, thus, don't feel any bit terrified that my body or the bodies of my friends and family will be blown to pieces in the checkout line at Dierbergs. I occasionally have trouble with the computer check-outs. They don't always scan my produce correctly. And now to Ben Able for the weather... Ben?
